Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "While in Chile, I was glad to connect with our 31st Antarctic Research Mission at the Vernadksyi Station in Antarctica.
I thanked our scientists for their important work. Thanks to them, Ukraine makes a critical contribution to global research and efforts to address the climate crisis.
I assured our Antarctic researchers that the Ukrainian diplomacy will always make every effort to support them.
Our embassy in Chile cooperates closely with the National Antarctic Scientific Center and facilitates missions and international cooperation.
Ukraine’s unique Antarctic capabilities are a great added value for our partners.
Ukraine has not only our own station, but also “Noosfera” polar supply and research ship. It works actively in Antarctica — not only for Ukraine, but for other nations, transporting vital cargo and crews.
Just recently, a group of Mexican researches used our capabilities for critically important research, among other foreign researchers. We are open to expanding international cooperation further.
As an Antarctic research power, Ukraine proposes mutually beneficial cooperation to nations in Latin America and the Caribbean. This topic is on the agenda of almost every bilateral meeting I am holding with counties in the region.
Recently, we adopted Ukraine’s first Strategy for Antarctica, Africa, and the World Ocean. This is part of a systemic, long-term work, which will allow to strategically advance Ukraine’s national interests and develop international partnerships.
We will advance all international instruments and formats to expand Antarctic research and ensure successful international cooperation, including in countering global climate crisis."
