Today, on the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War (1939-1945), we honour the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for peace and security around the world - so that these terrible events would never happen again.
However, evil has returned. Just today, on the night of this memorable day, Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 50 missiles and 20 drones. "Never again" has become "again" since Russia unleashed a war on Ukraine - the largest on the European continent since World War II. How many more "again" can there be? The world must make every effort to prevent the spread of evil.
Ukrainians know the price of war and victory very well - at least 8 million Ukrainians died fighting back those years. We are proud of the Ukrainian people, who not only fought heroically during the Second World War but also continue to defend our country with courage in the war unleashed by Russia against our people in 2014.
Today, the Ukrainian people are defending not only the freedom of Ukraine but the freedom of countries throughout the European continent to build sustainable peace and a renewed, more resilient global security system - to create conditions under which the tragedy of war will never happen again.

We remember the price that Ukrainian soldiers paid then and are still paying today for the sake of sustainable and lasting peace.
